Before we look at the role of Turkey plays in the end times, let us consider the following analogy: Consider a young person living either in Germany or Poland in 1925. The First World War has ended and a new season of economic recovery and blessing is taking place all over Europe. This person is living in a period called, “The Roaring Twenties.” Jobs are plentiful and there are many new opportunities for everyone to have a successful and happy life.
Then one day someone approaches this young person and says to him, that within 15 years everything will change. His country will be completely destroyed and half of the population will be wiped out. He is told that he will be called up for military service and will have to fight in a new war and probably be killed. He is told that an unknown corporal in the German Army called Adolph Hitler would become the supreme leader of Germany and lead Germany into a war more devastating than the First World War. We can imagine the reaction of this young man, “Never, this will never happen!” he may protest. If we were that young man, what would we say?
Now, let us change the narrative: We are now living in the year 2021. We have just seen the end of the devastating Covid plague and things are seemingly returning back to normal again. What if someone came to us and said: “Within fifteen years everything will change. The world will go through something much worse than what Hitler did and the Second World War. There will be wars and conflicts coming, much worse than the Second World War. The world will enter into the most devastating time in history and everything will change. Everything that you see now will be destroyed and many more people will die than in the Second World War. What will we say? It is a frightening reality, but it is true!
There is new menace in the world, much worse than Nazi Germany and that country is Turkey. Turkey was once a peaceful and stable country until 2003, when a man called Recep Tiyyip Erdogan became president. His ambitions and plans are far more dangerous than even that of Adolph Hitler. For the first few years of his reign, nothing much changed until 2014 when his true colours began to show. After a failed coup, he began to purge the army and government and take total control over the nation of Turkey.
His ambition is to restore the Ottoman Empire and form a Muslim Caliphate that will control many countries. His ultimate goal is to wipe out the nation of Israel and destroy all traces of Christianity. The caliph of this Caliphate will more than likely be the Antichrist. This evil leader will also be the head of the New World Order and will cause devastating destruction on the earth, and especially in the Middle East. However, before we proceed any further, let us look at some history:
The Ottoman Empire was founded in 1299 by Osman the First of Turkey. This Empire lasted until the defeat of Turkey, at the end of the First World War. The final great atrocity of this Empire, was the genocide of nearly two million Armenians in 1915. Furthermore, up to that time, Turkey had already martyred more Christians per capita than any other nation on earth. By the 1923, there were no more than a handful of Christians still alive in Turkey.
In 1923 the Ottoman Empire was dismantled and in 1924 Turkey became a secular state that enjoyed freedoms like many of the other Western Nations. However, since Erdogan came to power in 2003, the freedoms of Turkey have been steadily removed and radical Islam has been imposed on the people of Turkey. The budget for the religious department of Turkey has increased more than twenty times since Erdogan has come to power and they are training tens of thousands of Imams to spread radical Islamic propaganda, not only in Turkey, but all over the world.
Turkey financed and trained the ISIS terrorists that devastated Syria and Iraq a few years ago. They have sent in Jihad terrorists to take land away from the Kurds in Syria and to wipe out all traces of Christianity. They have financed and sent out Jihad terrorists into countries like Libya, Lebanon, Israel and into other countries. The instigated the war between Armenia and Azerbaijan in 2019 and helped Azerbaijan conquer Armenia. They helped Azerbaijan steal two thirds of the Nagorna Karabach province in Armenia. Furthermore, contrary to popular opinion, Turkey is also working with Iran to invade and destroy the nation of Israel with a common goal is to make Jerusalem the headquarters of the new Islamic caliphate.
In July 2019, Erdogan turned the famous Hagia Sophia museum in Istanbul, into a mosque. At the ceremony to commemorate this event, Erdogan said his next goal was to do the same in the Al Aqsa mosque on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem. In a speech made in July 2020, Erdogan boasted that the Turkish army is now so strong that he could do whatever he wants to do and no one could stop him. He has also made his intentions clear, that starting in 2023, on the hundredth anniversary of the fall of the Ottoman Empire; Turkey will start a new initiative. This initiative includes taking over nations that once belonged to the Ottoman Empire such as Armenia, Azerbaijan, North Africa and the Caucasus.
In Ezekiel 38 we read about the prophecy of Gog, who is the Antichrist, who comes out of the land of Magog, which is in Turkey. This is more than likely a prophetic word about the nation of Turkey and other nations in the Middle East. We read of a number of other nations that will be under the control of Gog, such as: Meshech, Gomer and Tubal (these are all part of modern day Turkey). Then we have, Persia (which is Iran), Put (which is Libya), Cush (which is Sudan). These nations will attack Sheba (which is Yemen), Dedan (which is Saudi Arabia) and Togarma (which is Azerbaijan, Armenia and part of the Caucuses). These nations will form a confederate of ten nations, which corresponds to the ten toes of the image in Daniel chapter 2 and the ten horns of the beast in Daniel chapter 7. (There is a lot we can say about this confederate of nations. We will not go into more detail about this, in this study.)
We read in Ezekiel 38:16, “And you (Gog or the Antichrist) shall come up against my people of Israel, as a cloud to cover the land; it shall be in the latter days.” In verse 19 we read, “And I will call for a sword against him throughout all my mountains, says the Lord GOD: every man’s sword shall be against his brother.”
The Antichrist will conquer and destroy many nations. He will eventually lead his army against the nation of Israel. Jesus will intervene, and destroy the armies of the Antichrist with a sword that comes out of His mouth. (Revelations 19:15) The Antichrist will be bound for a thousand years. Jesus will return to the earth with His church and set up His 1000 reign. Therefore, one of the most important countries to watch in the end times is Turkey. That what is happening in Turkey today is far more dangerous than that what is happening even in Iran, or any other nation. Therefore we should keep our eyes on Turkey. Amen
